Without diversity in agriculture, our society is on the verge of mass starvation due to climate change. Unlike other seedbanks, Svalbard does not only aim to preserve a variety of plant species from the region, but from around the world.
When the world becomes a catastrophic wasteland, as our final attempt, we will use the seeds in Svalbard as a foundation to rebuild our agriculture, our society and our species. The Svalbard Global Seed Vault is an archetypal vault with architectural significance that was built to last.
